2023 NFL Draft – Round One

NFL DRAFT, Round 1 of the NFL‘s 88th annual “Player Selection Meeting” started last Thu night and was hosted by Kansas City, Missouri, the Chiefs, the league’s reigning Super Bowl champions. This event was held from 27 to 29 April 2023.

Player Distribution Position Wise – NFL Draft Round One

NFL Draft – Round One : The distribution of the 259 players that were selected by Position is as follows.

First-round Picks – NFL Draft

1. QB Bryce Young, Alabama – Carolina Panthers (from Chicago Bears)

Bryce plays football similar to his basketball experience. Panthers received Young as new point guard.

2. QB C.J. Stroud, Ohio State – Houston Texans 

The Houston Texans made the second pick by selecting QB C.J. Stroud from Ohio. Houston could be taking on an asset that might turn around their team and stabilize them.

3. OLB/DE Will Anderson Jr., Alabama – Texans (from Arizona Cardinals)

Anderson at 6-4, 253 pounds may be the best of the lot. 

4. QB Anthony Richardson, Florida – Indianapolis Colts

Richardson at 6-4, 244 pounds, has a good dash, touched a vertical jump of 40½” and a broad jump of 10 ft, 9 in. He is expected to start playing soon.

5. CB Devon Witherspoon, Illinois – Seattle Seahawks (from Denver Broncos)

Combining a tough, defensive, tenacious, 6-foot 181-pounder Devon with Tariq Woolen and Coby Bryant, will make a Seattle one tough team.

6. OT Paris Johnson Jr., Ohio State – Cardinals (from Los Angeles Rams via Detroit Lions)

This draft’s top ranked left or right tackle, Johnson.

7. DE/OLB Tyree Wilson, Texas Tech – Las Vegas Raiders 

Wilson, at 6-6, and 271-pounds has size, length and power

8.  RB Bijan Robinson, Texas – Atlanta Falcons

He is regarded as the best back since Saquon Barkley in 2018.

9. DT Jalen Carter, Georgia – Philadelphia Eagles (from Panthers via Bears)

Extremely talented, Good at working the offense edges.

10. OT Darnell Wright, Tennessee – Bears (from New Orleans Saints via Eagles)

Wright can disengage defense due to his massive form and strength and can tackle left or right

11. OL Peter Skoronski, Northwestern – Tennessee Titans

Peter can guard or tackle with accurate angles. 

12. RB Jahmyr Gibbs, Alabama – Lions (from Cleveland Browns via Texans and Cardinals)

Gibbs is a fantastic home run hitter and due to his ability to outrun defenders. His average  scrimmage was nearly 1,300 yards.

13.  DE Lukas Van Ness, Iowa – Green Bay Packers (from New York Jets)

Ness’s ability to drive the offense back with size, length, power and speed is unique 

14. OT Broderick Jones, Georgia – Pittsburgh Steelers (from New England Patriots)

One of the best pass blocker of the Bulldogs.

15. OLB/DE Will McDonald IV, Iowa State – Jets (from Packers)

Very likely to work in Robert Saleh’s defense with great agility, length and passing down skills.

16. CB Emmanuel Forbes, Mississippi State – Washington Commanders

Forbes’s height is an advantage to collect the passes with ease. In 3 season with the Bulldogs he picked 14 passes and 6 returned for touchdowns- which is a record. 

17. CB Christian Gonzalez, Oregon – Patriots (from Steelers)

One of the top talents for corners.

18. LB Jack Campbell, Iowa – Lions

Campbell’s massive size and tackling can run over a defense.

19. DT Calijah Kancey, Pittsburgh – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Current ACC Defensive Player of the Year can be a force to discourage any team.

20. WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Ohio State – Seahawks

An instinctive route runner likely to begin as the team’s third receiver. 

21. WR Quentin Johnston, TCU – Los Angeles Chargers

Johnston at 6-3 and 208 pounds will join Mike Williams as another wide receiver. Johnston, who also had a dozen touchdowns over the past two seasons.

22. WR Zay Flowers, Boston College – Baltimore Ravens

Another instinctive route runner, Flowers is quickly off to increase distance.  

23. WR Jordan Addison, USC – Minnesota Vikings

Jordan receives well in the slot and touched to speed quickly.

24. CB Deonte Banks, Maryland  – New York Giants (from Jacksonville Jaguars)

At 6ft 197 pounds Banks may do well in Wink’s defense strategy. 

25. TE Dalton Kincaid, Utah – Buffalo Bills (from Giants via Jaguars)

One of the best tight end, Kincaid can be option No. 2 for the Bills

26. DT Mazi Smith, Michigan – Dallas Cowboys

Cowboys Dan Quinn’s defense needs an anchor in the middle, and Smith make outstanding tackles within the box.

27. OT Anton Harrison, Oklahoma – Jaguars (from Bills)

Harrison may be looking at a spot as the left tackle due to Cam Harrison’s suspension.

28. DE Myles Murphy, Clemson – Cincinnati Bengals

Miles has an excellent opportunity to land a defence spot in rotation with Sam Hubbard, Joseph Ossai and Trey Hendrickson.

29. DT Bryan Bresee, Clemson – Saints (from San Francisco 49ers via Dolphins and Broncos)

Saints need to juice up their defensive line and Bresee is good for it.

30. OLB Nolan Smith, Georgia – Eagles

OLB Nolan Smith

Smith’s extraordinary 41-inch vertical leap and a 6-2, 238 pounds athlete, is an elite skill for a pass rusher.

31. Kansas City Chiefs – DE Felix Anudike-Uzomah, Kansas State

Felix will form a formidable partnership with George Karlaftis in defense.
