Bucks general manager Jon Horsts’ announcement brings an element of uncertainty to the MILWAUKEE BUCKS team’s successful campaign this Season.

In a surprising decision, the MILWAUKEE BUCKS have let go off coach Adrian Griffin after just 43 games when they led with one of the best records in the NBA.

The season in Milwaukee raised many questions about its championship title even with a fantastic 30-13 tying for the second place for the entire league. Thus, the departure of assistant coach Terry Stotts before the season anticipated many other problems during Griffin’s term.

Assistant coach Terry Stotts, a key figure preceding ADRIAN GRIFFIN's departure, adds complexity to the Bucks' coaching narrative.
Terry Stotts, the predecessor, leaving a void as the Bucks navigate through the aftermath of ADRIAN GRIFFIN’s departure.

Hired over the summer, Griffin guided his team to a 30-13 record in that season and also secured approval from the superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Bucks are currently looking for someone to replace Griffin and among the candidates, there are former head coach Doc Rivers.

It is an uncommon move to fire a rookie head coach midseason, and even more so when that the coach has such an excellent record. Griffin’s departure is very similar to David Blatt, who was fired by the Cleveland Cavaliers despite having a 30-11 record in his second season. The Bucks look for a viable alternative to strengthen their chances of winning the 2024 NBA title with odds only third-shortest.

Keeping this in view, as the Bucks analyze the potential candidates for coaching opportunity, several experienced names such as Mike D’Antoni and Dave Joerger besides ironically Budenholzer himself are on their radars. The major midseason move that the team made demonstrates how much this organization is willing to trade for a championship and seven-time first-team all NBA guard, Damian Lillard.

At 49 years old, Griffin came with a whopping 16 seasons of NBA assistant coaching experience in his first head coach position. Hiring him from the Toronto Raptors to a team where star players such as Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard played, was a turning point.

This decision is motivated by the Bucks’ four-season upset in last year’s playoff under the former coach Mike Budenholzer. Though recording excellent regular-season and playoff wins, the Bucks decided on a coaching change following a surprising early exit.

The Bucks’ playoff potential is very solid, though Griffin leaving poses some unanswered questions. With a talented roster, the team aims for stability and leadership to guide them through until the season end.

Considering that the Bucks are the leading contenders for winning the 2024 NBA Championship, it is evident how quickly the front office made a decision to get a coach who could guide this team through various stages of playoffs to finally win the championship.

In light of Adrian Griffin’s unpredictable departure, the MILWAUKEE BUCKS embark on a crucial coaching hunt for one who will guide them to an eventual triumph.
