At the age of 91, Chita Rivera, the pioneering Latina actress known as the original Spider Woman and Broadway legend of her generation, passed away in New York City.

Lisa Mordente, the daughter of the gifted actress, announces her mother’s death as the theater world closes her chapter. Born Dolores Conchita Figueroa del Rivero, who would be known as Chita Rivera, created a legacy. In Broadway, this legacy stands unchallenged with 10 Tony nominations and two victories.

Rivera’s life started off when she was a primed ballerina attaining training at the School of American Ballet. Following that, Rivera appeared in Broadway broadcasts. Over the course of her lucrative career, Chita Rivera appeared in a number of roles and following that gained many Tony nominations. After receiving awards for The Rink in 1984, she made a notable contribution to theater with Kiss of Spider Woman in 1993.
