THE TRAGIC INCIDENT
An overnight shooting in Akron turned a festive street party into a scene of chaos and tragedy. The Akron Police Department is investigating the incident, which left 25 people injured by gunfire, including one fatality. The Akron Shooting incident took place late Saturday night during a birthday party near Kelly and Eighth Avenues, where around 200 people had gathered.
Police Investigate Akron Shooting
Police Chief Brian Harding reported that he believed a drive-by shooting occurred at the party, which had spilled into the street. Between 10 p.m. and midnight, partygoers returned to the scene, and shortly after midnight, the police started receiving calls about shots fired.
Officers arrived to find two handguns and multiple types of shell casings, including those from a rifle. At least 35 shell casings were found, but the number of shooters remains unknown, and no suspects have been identified.
Akron Shooting Victims Rushed to Hospitals
The victims, aged 19 to 43, were transported to nearby hospitals. Meanwhile, The Cleveland Clinic admitted nine patients, one in critical condition. Additionally, Summa Health received 15 patients, mostly with non-life-threatening injuries.
As of Sunday evening, several patients had been treated and released, while a few remained in critical condition.
Community Urged to Come Forward
Akron Mayor Shammas Malik and Police Chief Brian Harding held a press conference urging the community to provide information. “There are people out there who know the person or persons involved, and I implore you to speak up,” Malik said.
Authorities are offering a $22,500 reward for information that leads to arrests. The mayor emphasized the need for community cooperation to prevent further violence and retaliation.
Witness Accounts of Akron Shooting
Witnesses described the scene as initially festive, with people dancing and enjoying the party. However, the atmosphere quickly turned nightmarish when gunfire erupted.
One witness recalled, “Everyone was wearing white T-shirts; there were women on top of vehicles dancing. On our way back, it was a completely different scene.”

City officials and law enforcement are calling for anyone with information to come forward. The investigation is still in its early stages, and police are canvassing the area for leads.
Police Chief Harding acknowledged the Community’s distrust in Law enforcement but stressed the importance of anonymous tips in solving the case.
