Atlanta, the vibrant Culinary hub of Georgia, has officially made its debut in the Michelin Guide. The first-ever Michelin Guide for the City was released on October 24, 2023. The Guide showcases Atlanta’s thriving food scene, recognizing outstanding restaurants and Culinary talent.

A total of 45 restaurants in Atlanta received Michelin Stars, Bib Gourmand Status, or other distinctions in the Guide. These establishments offer a diverse range of Culinary experiences, from traditional Southern cuisine to international flavors.

Despite the Citys’ diverse Culinary landscape, some have pointed out that Black-owned restaurants and those with Black chefs have not received Michelin Stars in the city. This issue reflects a broader conversation about the need for greater inclusivity and recognition of various Culinary traditions.

The Ceremony In Atlanta

The reveal ceremony was a highly anticipated event, held at the Rialto Center in downtown Atlanta. It began with a gala, where attendees enjoyed dishes from local Atlanta restaurants like the General Muir. The ceremony provided an opportunity for local and Michelin chefs, as well as other members of the Atlanta restaurant industry, to come together and celebrate the city’s Culinary achievements.

In addition to the award categories, the Guide also featured a long list of recommended restaurants, giving mentions to a wide range of dining establishments in Atlanta.

The Awards

The awards presented during the ceremony covered various categories, highlighting exceptional talent and practices in the restaurant industry:

• Michelin Young Chef Award: Chef Jarrett Stieber of Little Bear was acknowledged as a rising star in the Culinary world.
• Sommelier Award: Juan Fernando Cortes of The Chastain received the sommelier award, highlighting his expertise in the world of wine.
• Exceptional Cocktails Award: The bar team at BoccaLupo, led by Jason Furst, was recognized for their exceptional cocktails.
• Michelin Service Award: Neil McCarthy of Miller Union was honored for his outstanding service.
• Green Star: Bacchanalia and The Chastain were both awarded the Green Star, recognizing their sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.
• One Star: Five restaurants earned Michelin Stars in Atlanta’s inaugural Guide. These are Atlas, Bacchanalia, Hayakawa, Lazy Betty, and Mujo. Each of these establishments showcased remarkable Culinary experiences that earned them a spot among the best in the city.
• Bib Gourmand: The Bib Gourmand category, often referred to as “cheap eats,” included several restaurants known for providing high-quality food at affordable prices. Among the Bib Gourmand winners were Antico, Arepa Mia, Banshee, Bomb Biscuit, Busy Bee Cafe, Estrellita, Fred’s Meat and Bread, Fishmonger, Heirloom Market BBQ, and Little Bear.
