Exceptional Dubai Weather caused Severe flooding on Tuesday, following an unprecedented amount of rain that fell in just 24 hours, equivalent to two years’ worth of Rainfall.

The Dubai Meteorological Office recorded over 6 inches of rain, causing chaos in the normally arid city.

Dubai International Airport Diverts Flights Due to Exceptional Dubai Weather

The heavy Rainfall forced Dubai International Airport to divert inbound flights on Tuesday evening, though departures were unaffected. The airport cited “exceptional weather” as the reason for the temporary diversions. The city’s government and private schools also switched to remote work due to the weather conditions.

Climate Change Blamed for Intense Rainfall Events

Experts attribute the extreme rainfall to human amplified Climate Change, which is causing more frequent and intense rainfall events worldwide.

The Middle East, known for its arid climate, faced rare and severe flooding. In Oman, at least 18 people lost their lives due to the severe weather, with schools closed in the UAE and flooding disrupting daily life.

Video footage showed Dubai International Airport’s tarmac flooded, with airplanes navigating through waterlogged runways.

The UAE National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority urged residents to stay home and park vehicles in safe, elevated locations.

Neighboring countries like Qatar and Saudi Arabia also experienced unusually wet conditions, leading to speculation about the role of global warming in these extreme weather events.

While it’s too early to definitively link these storms to climate change, scientists warn that a warmer atmosphere can hold more moisture, potentially leading to more severe storms and intense rainfall.
