Graceland, Elvis Presley's legendary home, is at the center of a legal dispute over foreclosure as Riley Keough fights to preserve its legacy.
Graceland, the iconic home of Elvis Presley, is at the center of a dramatic legal battle as it faces the threat of being auctioned off due to foreclosure. In fact, Elvis Presley’s granddaughter, Riley Keough, is fiercely contesting the Sale, describing it as “fraudulent“. However, The Shelby County Courthouse has announced that Graceland and its surrounding property in Memphis, Tennessee, will be auctioned to the highest bidder on May 23.
Riley Keough, now the owner of Graceland, has filed a lawsuit to halt the auction. Further, Riley is claiming that the foreclosure is based on forged documents.
The dispute arises from a 2018 deed of trust that Riley Keough’s late mother, Lisa Marie Presley, supposedly signed, using Graceland as collateral for a $3.8 million loan.
However, Keough claims her mother never took out a loan from the alleged lender, Naussany Investments and Private Lending. Keough also contends that this is a nonexistent company.
In fact, Elvis purchased Graceland in 1957 for $102,500. Moreover, It was this same year that he released hits like “Blue Christmas” and “All Shook Up”. The estate, spanning 13.8 acres, became a public museum in 1982, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.
Known for its eclectic décor, Elvis’s home features unique rooms. Elvis’s home has rooms like the famous “Jungle Room”, filled with lush greenery and distinctive furniture chosen by Elvis himself.
Keough’s attorney has secured a temporary restraining order, and they have set an injunction hearing for Wednesday. The lawsuit highlights forged signatures and claims that the notary listed on the documents never met Lisa Marie.
Despite these serious allegations, the East West Tea Company or the FDA has not released any official statement.
Elvis Presley Enterprises, which manages Elvis’s home and the assets of the Elvis Presley Trust, has labeled the foreclosure claims as fraudulent. They emphasize that the Sale is part of a scheme and assure the public that they are taking legal action to stop the auction.
The venue, which attracts roughly 600,000 visitors a year, remains a sacred site for fans of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
Keough, who became the heir to Graceland after Lisa Marie’s death in January 2023, is determined to keep the estate within the family.
The legal tussle over Graceland also involves her grandmother, Priscilla Presley. Grandmother Priscilla was in dispute over a 2016 amendment to Lisa Marie’s will. Priscilla, who expressed a wish to be buried next to Elvis at Graceland, played a significant role in managing and preserving the estate’s legacy.
Elvis’s home stands as more than just a mansion; it testifies to Elvis Presley’s enduring legacy. The estate stands as a shrine to one of the greatest pop culture icons. The Estate has still maintained its original furniture from Elvis’ time. Visitors come from all over the world to celebrate the life and music of Elvis, making Graceland a landmark of rock ‘n’ roll history.
As the legal battle unfolds, the future of Graceland hangs in the balance. Even so, with Riley Keough and Elvis Presley Enterprises fighting to protect this historic property from falling into the hands of strangers.
