LOUISIANA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY Promotes Heart Health : “GO RED” Campaign Takes The Limelight

In a spirited action, Louisiana Christian University through a February campaign for cardiovascular health initiative is calling everyone to wear Red on the first Friday of the month as a symbol of Heart disease.

The Louisiana Christian University campaigns are timely coincided with the American Heart Association’s (AHA) “Go Red for Women” Day. This is a worldwide activity day on advocating cardiovascular diseases awareness as the leading killer of women.

Spearheading this health-oriented project is established initiative of the Department of Exercise Science at Louisiana Christian University. Working with AHA’s national campaign, they also are not only promoting the symbolic act of wearing red as a sign of heart health but are actually promoting exercise habits for all month. A culture of healthy living is promoted through workouts with the cooperation of faculty and staff. This is held twice a week to encourage overall health through physical activity.

“Step Up, CENLA” is a program led by Sonia Tinsley, Chair of the Department of Exercise Science at Louisiana Christian University. The importance of this campaign was underscored as prospective leaders in our community begin taking first steps towards being physically active for everyone around them. This initiative has been designed to promote elevation of physical activities among adults in Louisiana; the fact that more than 30 percent are inactive implies diminished cardiovascular health.

The gym workouts that are conducted by Kelsey Alford, LCU’s personal trainer, where anyone could participate irrespective of their fitness level. Participants are encouraged to gather at the H.O. West Field House in comfortable attire for sessions scheduled from noon to 18:00 hrs Mondays to Thursdays during February. This initiative towards the community is aimed to dismantle and make accessible cardiovascular fitness for all.

Problems with total body health and mental well-being are being addressed by Alford. The benefits of exercise are common knowledge – those who do exercises, improve their moods, focus on work problems, energy levels, and sleep quality. People who exercise also tend to have a significantly more efficient diet. Efficient Diet leads to a higher overall health level and sensibility of their actions in terms of eating habits.

In the efforts to promote cardiovascular wellness, Louisiana Christian University addresses myths regarding heart disease with special attention to women. Next, Since 2004, the AHA is focusing on “Go Red for Women”. Its aim is to impart educational information regarding the risks to women. It also inspires individuals to be more valuable in their wellness with respects to keeping a solid heart.

In contrary to the common misconceptions, heart disease is not a disease that seems to affect older people. Instead, it affects both young women and adults. The state of affairs is clear – heart disease kills more women than men. Moreover, It surpasses the rate of all forms of cancer combined. According to the AHA, women are acutely aware of just 44% of the cardiovascular disease as their most significant health threat.

It is, however, crucial to separate myth from reality when you dwell into heart diseases. According to the AHA, heart disease should be seen as a significant enemy for women, causing death in one woman out of three. The statistics are sobering: Over 60 million women, which makes out to about 44% of the female population in the U.S., is struggling with some type of heart disease that has been detected by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In addition to the awareness campaign, Louisiana Christian University appeals for everyone in society by wearing Red on February 2nd where every individual supports heart disease victims which over half of American women fight every day.
