Respawn Entertainment developed Star Wars Jedi: Survivor also called ‘Jedi Survivor’ is an adventure-action video game released on April 28, 2023 on PS5/PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S.

The Entry Scene of Jedi Survivor

Undoubtedly, the opening scene of Star Wars Jedi Survivor is breathtaking. A daring heist takes place very much amidst the Coruscant’s enormous megastructures.

Cal Kestis, a fugitive Jedi who survived Darth Vader’s Imperial inquisition in the previous game (Jedi: Fallen Order), is now a spy for the Rebel Alliance. His most recent objective is a dishonest senator’s opulent space yacht.

The following next 90 minutes are filled with suspense as Cal chases the boat through Coruscant’s complicated underbelly. Cal dodges stormtroopers and pirouetts across the impossible structures of the city.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor – A fascinating Sequel

Jedi: Survivor is graphically stunning, mechanically complex, and wildly entertaining aswell. In fact, this is everything you could ask for in a Star Wars adventure and a blockbuster video game.

Moreover, Jedi: Survivor is a fascinating sequel and a significant upgrade.

It is not only a masterclass in cinematic action, but it also has a considerably more tasteful implementation of its varied combination of elements. Consequently, the end effect is it is the best Star Wars game in 20 years, which is equally captivating to play in person as it is to watch on screen.

When Cal departs from Coruscant and travels to the planet Koboh to hide and fix his damaged spaceship, the distinction becomes apparent. In contrast to Bogano, the second planet in Fallen Order, which is a flat, perplexing, and uninspired backwater, Koboh is a distinct. Koboh is a big and spectacular open world.

You will constantly explore this Open world as you uncover the routes to its assortment of eye-catching attractions. There are mountains to scale, ancient Jawa ruins to discover, and Jedi temples in the vein of Breath of the Wild.

The most enticing structure is the enormous, crumbling dome. This is the dome of a Lucrehulk battleship. It has now crashed and is now spouting a gang of homicidal raiders and their army of battle droids. The latter offers enjoyable lightsaber play and heartwarming comic relief as you travel through Koboh.

The Major Theme – Jedi Survivor

Unsurprisingly, fighting is a major theme. You cut your way through a never-ending stream of imperial soldiers, fighting robots, and exotic wildlife. Fighting will penalise careless players; to keep Cal alive, you must skillfully press the parry and dodge buttons.

Cal is a seasoned Jedi, therefore his arsenal of established force abilities lessens the severity of the difficulty curve. Stormtroopers can now be pulled and pushed around for amusement. They can be pushed off the ledges, and pulled onto the tip of your lightsaber.

You can use a variety of new lightsaber techniques to varying degrees of effectiveness. For example, combining a lightsaber and a blaster is pleasantly flexible however, the crossguard stance (which was modelled after Kylo Ren’s lightsaber) is too cumbersome to be of much use.

By nature, Cal is acrobatic; he can climb sheer surfaces like a womp rat up a drainpipe, race up walls, and flip in midair. Respawn uses the very dynamic mobility produced by Survivor’s addition of a grappling hook and an airborne rush to create complex navigation problems.

In fact, third-person platforming in Survivor may even be superior to combat, especially in the latter stages of the game when Cal spends more time in the air than on the ground.

The Koboh Environment – Jedi Survivor

It helps that Survivor offers such beautiful environments to explore. Koboh makes up about half of the game environment. You will also be able to travel to a High Republic facility. This includes the planet’s shattered moon and historic Jedi temples in the vast ochre deserts of Jedha. The latter is initially unimpressive. Its platforming difficulties unsettlingly resemble the less compelling aspects of Fallen Order.

Finally it culminates in a drab section where you ride a spindly extraterrestrial monster distractingly called a “spamel.” On a second visit, however, Jedha dramatically atones for its previous shortcomings. It launches a middle act that features a string of wonderful prolonged set pieces. This also includes a trip to the obscenely large Lucrehulk.

These missions are connected by a similarly ambitious, if less consistently high-quality, plot in Jedi: Survivor. This game’s protagonist, Cal, is more likeable thanks to his increased confidence and grittier edge developed through his battle with the Empire.

In the story, Cal is enticed away from the resistance by the prospect of a new home safely outside of Imperial reach. This sets off a tale of infatuation, betrayal, and tragedy that puts his basic decency in jeopardy.

It is cleverly written and uses unique concepts, such as a subtle reversal of a well-liked theme found in recent commercial video games. However, because of the way the plot is structured, some character arcs end before they should. The characters lack the energy required to fully explore the larger themes.

Conclusion and Review

Jedi: Survivor has a lot going for it even though it doesn’t quite match the Knights of the Old Republic by BioWare’s narrative prowess. The game’s haptic controls and carefully calibrated difficulty make it continually satisfying, whether you’re hunting down optional bounty hunters, finishing the challenges in those Jedi temples, or exploring Koboh’s several unexplored lanes for character enhancements.

However, its most intense moments are on par with anything God of War or Elden Ring can offer. You’ve found the Star Wars game you’re looking for, be rest assured !!!
