THE STARS

The Tkachuk brothers, Brady and Matthew, have become prominent figures in the NHL, each making significant impacts on their respective teams. Their journeys, marked by exceptional performances and leadership, have captivated hockey fans worldwide.

Brady Tkachuk: Ottawa Senators’ Captain

Brady Tkachuk, drafted fourth overall by the Ottawa Senators in 2018, has quickly proven his worth. Initially met with skepticism from fans who preferred sniper Filip Zadina, Brady has since won over the Ottawa fanbase. He immediately challenged for a roster spot and made the team out of training camp, despite a minor injury at the season’s start.

In his rookie season, Brady played 71 games, scoring 22 goals and 23 assists. His development was further aided by living with veteran Mark Stone, who mentored him until Stone’s trade to the Vegas Golden Knights. In his second season, Brady led the team in points, despite playing with a lower-quality roster. The 2019-20 season saw him maintaining his form, leading the team in points again.

Brady’s growth continued during the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season, where he demonstrated leadership both on and off the ice. His hard work paid off as he was named the team’s captain in his fourth season after signing a seven-year contract extension. Under his captaincy, Brady scored 30 goals and 37 assists, and this season, he has already surpassed his career highs with 33 goals and 42 assists in 73 games.

Matthew Tkachuk: Florida Panthers’ Star

Matthew Tkachuk, drafted sixth overall by the Calgary Flames in 2016, has carved out an impressive career. Furthermore, in his rookie season, he scored 13 goals and 35 assists, slightly outpacing Brady’s rookie points. By his third season, Matthew had become a near point-per-game player, scoring 34 goals and 43 assists.

The 2019-20 season marked a significant milestone for Matthew as he led the Flames in points. Nevertheless, despite the COVID-19 pandemic shortening the season, he managed to score 23 goals and 38 assists. His performance peaked in the 2021-22 season with 42 goals and 62 assists, prompting a major trade to the Florida Panthers.

Matthew’s transition to the Panthers has been nothing short of transformative. Moreover, he signed an eight-year, $76 million deal and led Florida to the Stanley Cup Finals in his first two seasons. His competitive nature and leadership have made him a fan favorite and a cornerstone of the Panthers’ future.
