Draymond Green's suspension adds to Warriors' injury woes
Draymond Green, who is at the heart of this team, has been suspended indefinitely. This will mean that The Warriors have to overcome a crisis before facing the Los Angeles Clippers. There is a second twist, though, as a result of the latest Warriors Injury report about Andrew Wiggins’ and Chris Paul’s conditions.
Draymond has played an important role in making the Warriors the team to reckon with. He has been also vocal and also a great defender for Warriors. However, his absence will be greatly felt during an indefinite suspension. This suspension that is occasioned by a Flagrant 2 committed on Jusuf Nurkic of the Phoenix Suns. This will be the sixth game being missed by Green due to suspension. It is making things more difficult for a team that has been battling hard at the bottom of the Western Conference.
Green’s league decision considers his previous history of repeated unsportsmanship that recently came up as a five-game suspension. Such suspense only means that The Warriors would have to wait longer before Green comes back out to the court.
A year and a half after they won their last championship, the Warriors expect some players like Andrew Wiggins to fill in for them. Currently the number two, the best player they’ve had throughout their championship run, Wiggins is having arguably the worst statistical season of his career. Wiggins averages one career’s low of 12.1 points in just 41.3% shooting, which is a tough fight against the Clippers.
In spite of their decline form, Wiggins will go clean and The Warriors should expect more output from their star player given that he could only play a total fifteen minutes in the last match up with the Suns. For the sake of the team, perhaps his best game of the season will be in playing the Clipper’s where they stand at a dismal 10-13.
The aim of having Chris Paul play for The Warriors during the off season was to strengthen their bench. With the team struggling through a 4-6 record in its last ten games, Paul’s condition is vital to hope for a comeback. Luckily, Paul can play against the Clippers, a glimmer of hope as the Lakers endure through another rough season.
Moreover, The Warriors have another defensive loss after Warriors Injury Report of Gary Payton, who is ruled out due to a pulled calf. He is famous for his defensive prowess meaning his absence is a big loss to the team and they have to recalibrate their defence against the Clippers. According to Anthony Slater, Payton is scheduled for reassessment this weekend and therefore there is another question mark on his recovery.
The Warrior woes are not confined to their long list of injuries as seen in the latest Warriors Injury Report but, it is also evidenced by their current record. Their current record of 10-13 places them at number eleven in the Western Conference. In an attempt to end their slide, The Warriors have a tough assignment facing the rejuvenated Clippers who have recorded five consecutive victories. It will be interesting seeing if their lack of essential defensive players would cost them since this game is certainly a make or break game for them.
The Warriors are on their way to Southern California in search of the Clippers. With the suspension of their main defensive weapon –Draymond Green– as well as uncertainties surrounding Gary Payton II’s return, The Warriors must summon everything within them and move forward together until their next match.
Recently, the Golden State Warriors have been faced with periods of suspension, injuries, and below-par performance. The indefinite suspension of Draymond Green is likely to present the team with a unique challenge – forcing an adjustment in its defensive approach. The battle against the Clippers is an acid test for the steadfastness of Warriors with Andrew Wiggins, and Chris Paul playing vital roles in this process.
All teams experience injuries and suspensions at the NBA level during a particular season, but it will be how the Warriors handle this that will shape their course. The Warriors seek to recapture their glorious days where winning the championship was a common thing through offensive resuscitation and defensive realignment. During the course of the NBA season, it is eviden t that even the mighty Warrior has its share of struggles making it anyone’s game.
